This is a fantastic opportunity for an archaeological professional with experience of upland archaeology, to join our excellent organisation as we safeguard and enhance the historic environment of the moors.

The Role
As an Historic Environment Officer, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that is delivering peatland restoration across the Southwest. The post leads on the Historic Environment on Exmoor for the South West Peatland Partnership (SWPP) and will work with other SWPP Historic Environment Officers providing archaeological services for this project across Exmoor, Dartmoor and Cornwall.
Utilising your archaeological knowledge, you will develop site-specific strategies to mitigate any threats, particularly those posed by groundwork, to historic environments by the mire restoration operations.

Employing a range of archaeological fieldwork techniques and methodologies, you will use GPS and GIS mapping technologies to identify, map, record and interpret archaeological features.

Additionally, you will
- Procure, supervise and monitor a diverse range of archaeological and historical contractors
- Ensure all archaeological work meets correct standards and archiving procedures
- Act as an advocate for the historic environment of the Southwest
- Communicate and disseminate your work to diverse audiences, including the general public

About You
To be considered a Historic Environmental Officer, you will need:
- Degree level qualification in archaeology or equivalent subject
- Experience of  British and upland archaeology
- Experience of a range of archaeological techniques (such as surveying, excavation, palaeo-environmental sampling, geophysical survey and LiDAR)
- Experience of successfully delivering projects on time and to budget
- Experience of procuring and managing contractors
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong GIS technology skills
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Exmoor National Park and the context in which National Parks operate
- Understanding of the issues currently facing rural areas and the farming community
- Full driving licence or ability to travel across Exmoor, Dartmoor and Bodmin
