Join as a Student or Affiliate member

CIfA is your professional home for archaeology. You can be part of a network of thousands of professional archaeologists committed to high standards and enhancing their careers. 

There are many benefits to becoming a non-accredited member, including discounted training and networking opportunities. For more details go to the Membership benefits section below.

Student or Affiliate members are expected to support and work towards the CIfA Code of conduct.

As they are not yet professionally accredited, we do not assess technical or ethical competence and no references are needed.

Students

If you are a student enrolled on an appropriate course, select Student membership.

Student members need to be undertaking

  • a full or part-time course (normally half or greater than a working week) of study in subjects relevant to archaeology and the historic environment
    OR
  • an unrelated course of study but with an aspiration to pursue a career in archaeology and the historic environment
    OR
  • a programme of vocational training approved by CIfA

You can continue as a Student member for up to one year after you have graduated, regardless of your employment status. We will then automatically transfer you to Affiliate member or you can consider upgrading to be an accredited member.

If you were previously a Student member, you can re-join by applying below. If you were a previously a student member and are no longer studying, you will need to join at Affiliate below.

Affiliates

If you are not a student, but you are interested in archaeology and don't yet meet the criteria for accreditation, select Affiliate membership.

Subscription fees

Current subscription fees are below for 1 April to 31 March the following year. These are based on the grade of membership.

You can choose to pay your subscription in a lump sum or by direct debit over 10 instalments from June to March the following year.
