After studying archaeology at Cardiff and Durham, I joined Cadw in 2002 and currently work as a Senior Inspector of Ancient Monuments and Archaeology where I am involved in designation and case work (advice, consents, grants etc.) relating to scheduled monuments and Cadw’s guardianship sites, particularly Neath Abbey, Castell Coch and Swansea and Caerphilly Castles.  I work with archaeological sites from all periods offering heritage management advice and ensuring compliance with the heritage framework of legislation, policy, advice, and guidance in Wales.  I specialise in modern conflict archaeology, which was the subject of my PhD at the University of Birmingham.  I am the policy lead for heritage crime and support the Welsh police forces investigating and prosecuting heritage crimes.  My current CPD focus is around investigative best practice and ensuring documentation and processes are fit for purpose at court.  I have been a CIfA member since 2004 and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 2020.  I am particularly interested in ethical best practice, heritage leadership and am keen to support the development of the next generation of archaeologists in Wales.

Dr Cyllene Griffiths BA(Hons) MA ACIfA IHBC FSA 

Cy started as a field archaeologist over 30 years ago, later moving on to specialise in historic buildings and places, working in the private, public and third sectors, after an MA in Conservation Studies at York. She has spent over 20 years as a LA conservation officer in both England and Wales and currently works for Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park as their Senior Heritage Officer. She graduated her PhD in Applied Archaeology (Heritage Management) at UWTSD in 2018 and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 2022. She additionally runs her own private heritage consultancy and was previously Chair of IHBC Wales. Cy has a particular interest in raising the profile of the heritage of Wales and using heritage to engage communities with the places in which they live, work and visit in addition to her specialism in historic buildings.

I am currently Reader in Early Medieval Archaeology at Cardiff University. Prior to this I worked at Canterbury Christ Church University and within commercial archaeology. My research and teaching focuses on Wales and western Britain and I currently lead a large research and fieldwork training project focused on Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan. I am passionate about Welsh archaeology and keen to help in training the next generation of archaeologists. 

Originally a Cardiff Uni graduate; celebrating 40 years this year working in archaeology (in Wales mainly, also England). Experienced mainly in archaeological planning advisory role to UAs in SE Wales (30+ years), although field archaeologist for some 10 years prior to that. MBA at UWTSD relating to Archaeological Planning Provision and the Historic Environment. Interested in many aspects of archaeology, especially relating to Wales, and transitional periods in history/archaeology.
