Summary
We are looking for a Geophysical Survey Officer to join our Archaeological Survey Team, working on all aspects of geophysical survey projects across Scotland.
What you’ll be doing:
You will be a key member of the geophysics team for three years, working on a range of field projects, data processing and interpretation, archiving, and dissemination. You will gain comprehensive experience in the practice of geophysical survey for archaeology. In this role you will also work with other archaeological survey colleagues on integrated multi-source approaches to documenting and understanding sites and landscapes.
The archaeology and landscapes of Scotland are the central focus of the team you will be joining. You will contribute to enhancing our understanding of the historic environment, working with existing information, creating new mapping through fieldwork and desk-based assessment, and disseminating that understanding through Canmore, academic publication and social media. Your day-to-day work will be varied, including fieldwork, data processing, report writing and GIS analysis. Fieldwork is a fundamentally important part of our practice, and you will be expected to participate as appropriate, including travelling throughout Scotland to sometimes remote locations, and working in inclement conditions.
Who we are looking for:
You should be able to demonstrate that you have: a degree in Archaeology or a closely related subject, or equivalent experience; an interest in geophysical survey for archaeology; a working knowledge of landscape archaeology and/or the archaeology of Scotland; an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to archaeological survey.
