Summary

 The Company

Alecto Forensic Services (AFS) is a key part of The Forensic Access Group, which is enjoying rapid growth and progression towards becoming the market-leading international forensics and criminal justice services organisation. We are a team of forensic anthropologists, archaeologists and environmental scientists specialising in the detection, recovery and identification of human remains, collection and analysis of environmental evidence, from scenes of crime. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and multi-skilled archaeologist to join our team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Attendance at major crime scenes to support forensic investigations.
  • Desk-based assessments to assist with searches for clandestine graves and interpretation of sites where human remains have been found
  • Forming part of a 24/7 on-call service with senior and junior colleagues.
  • Assisting in the delivery and support of police training, in both the UK and abroad.
  • Producing reports and expert witness statements; attendance at court.
  • General administration duties, as required

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Full/Clean driving licence. The role will involve travel at short notice nationally and internationally
  • Extensive experience in field walking, evaluations, and excavations in rural and urban environments; production of archaeological reports
  • Experience in the excavation of archaeological burials from different time periods
  • Competency in recording sites using standard archaeological techniques including survey
  • Specialist expertise in landscape archaeology and / or buildings archaeology  
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in archaeology 
  • Member of the CIfA, or eligible and willing to apply within first 6 months of employment 

Desirable 

  • Familiarity with ArcGIS; Experience of recording scenes and buildings using geo-rectified photography and photogrammetry 
  • Experience of deployment to major crime scenes to excavate human remains, or equivalent experience in humanitarian contexts
  • Track record as a reporting scientist and expert witness in forensic archaeology
  • The ability to assist in the delivery, management, and administration of police training courses

  • Excellent English and grammar and a keen eye for detail
  • Enthusiastic and great communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines
  • A flexible approach to working hours.
  • Police clearance to NPPV3, or the ability to qualify for such clearance (5 years’ continuous UK residency, no criminal convictions, no pending criminal convictions)
