Summary

An exciting opportunity has opened to join the South West Region`s Local Leadership Team as a Development Advice Team Leader. If you are seeking an opportunity to lead a small team of Building and Archaeological Inspectors and Assistant Inspectors and oversee the provision of statutory and non-statutory advice to help ensure that the significance of the historic environment is preserved while securing its place for the future, then this is the ideal time for you to join us.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract.

The location of the role is Bristol - we will consider hybrid working where you are based in the office and home.

What you will be doing:

As a Team Leader, you will undertake your own casework, including the most challenging cases, ensuring that our Historic England advice is soundly based on in law and policy.

As part of the Local Leadership Team you will work with colleagues to steer the South West Region towards success, ensuring that we achieve our Corporate targets and making the South West a great place to work.

You will develop the capabilities and manage the workloads of staff, ensuring knowledge of and compliance with agreed practices and standards. You will ensure that the team engages where our expertise will add most to public value, and that the team also supports the wider Regions Group and other colleagues in the advancement of Historic England`s objectives.

Who we are looking for:

-Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject
-Extensive and broad experience of managing historic assets through the planning system
-Specialist knowledge in a field relevant to the post (i.e. architectural history, archaeology, designed landscapes or planning)
-Excellent written communication
-Experience or training in the management of a team
