Summary

Wardell Armstrong (WA) is a successful multi-disciplinary consultancy with 13 offices throughout the UK employing approximately 500 staff. We are a CIfA Registered Organisation with over 25 years of heritage and archaeology experience working within a wide variety of sectors across the UK.

We are currently looking to grow our heritage team in our Carlisle office and are offering the opportunity to join our dedicated team of archaeological and heritage professionals, both within Carlisle and across the wider company. The right individual will have around 2-5 years professional commercial experience working in the historic environment and have demonstrable experience in producing or assisting in the production of Desk Based Assessments, Heritage Impact Assessments and input into Environmental Impact Assessments. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake site visits and archive research. Ideally, you will have experience in dealing with all heritage assets and considerations, both built and archaeological.

Dependent on experience, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Write Desk Based Assessments and Heritage Impact Assessments.
  • Conduct site walk over surveys.
  • Conduct visits to archive centres for research purposes.
  • Providing advice on heritage and conservation matters.
  • Assist the team leads with the preparation of fee proposals.
  • Be an active member of the Heritage and Archaeology team in Carlisle, working collaboratively with the wider team across the business.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in relevant discipline (Archaeology, Heritage, Conservation etc)
  • Field Archaeology experience.
  • Experience of preparing Desk-Based assessments, Heritage Impact Assessments
  • Comprehensive understanding of the historic environment in the planning process.
  • Good understanding of legislation and planning policy.
  • Good technical report writing.
