Summary

We are seeking Senior Consultants to join one of the largest heritage consultancies in the country, working on an exciting variety of historic environment projects across the UK, and occasionally overseas.

As Senior Consultant a typical week could include: producing or contributing to archaeological and heritage assessments for EIA; monitoring and assuring the written work of Consultants and Assistant Consultants; preparing competitive tenders and designing the scope and methodology for desk-based and/or archaeological fieldwork; monitoring and assuring the on-site and written work of archaeological subcontractors, including RAMS; representing WSP and undertaking stakeholder, curator and client liaison.

You will have a combination of technical expertise and commercial acumen and will be comfortable taking responsibility for your work and that of others in the team, to meet deadlines and budgets within a busy consultancy environment. You will also have an awareness of Health and Safety risk management, a track record of successful project delivery, and the ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships. You will also have the drive and imagination to identify and pursue business development opportunities.

Senior Consultant, Bristol or Cambridge - you will have a strong background in archaeological fieldwork and will be responsible for the management and delivery of archaeology projects in the southern half of the country. Leading on fieldwork projects and delivering bespoke archaeological strategies for developments and infrastructure works, for which you will have a strong awareness of Health and Safety and risk management.

Senior Consultant, Manchester or Leeds- you will be responsible for the management and delivery of a wide variety of built heritage and archaeology projects, principally located in the North of England and Wales. This includes desk-based research, often supporting EIA, designing and delivering archaeological strategies, and producing heritage statements.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A heritage related degree
  • Excellent written and communication skills, and are a good team player
  • A robust knowledge of UK archaeology and history
  • Excellent understanding of the UK planning process, environmental/heritage legislation and guidance
  • Experience of project management, including financial and staff management
  • Experience in one or more of: desk-based assessment, managing archaeological fieldwork, built heritage, heritage conservation, heritage led-regeneration, placemaking
  • Full Drivers' Licence for site visits (hire cars provided)
  • At least 2 years' experience of archaeological fieldwork project management and at least 5 years’ fieldwork experience (Bristol or Cambridge role only)
