Opportunity to join CIfA’s Board of Directors

Monday, 19th January 2026

Following our AGM in October 2025, we have one vacancy for an ordinary Board member which can be filled by cooption. The Board of Directors is the decision-making body for CIfA. It sets CIfA’s strategic direction and has oversight of the ten-year Strategic plan and rolling 3-year business plan and the resources needed to deliver them. The Board has overall legal and fiduciary responsibility for CIfA. Board members should be familiar with the role and purpose of the Institute.

You can find out more about the work of CIfA’s Board of Directors here.

The coopted director will join the Board for the remainder of the governance year and can then stand for election at the 2026 AGM if they wish so it is a good opportunity to find out more about the work of the Board before committing to a full three-year term.

Following a Board skills audit, we are particularly seeking members with experience in either

  • a local authority or an academic context, or
  • with recent PR or marketing expertise

If you’re interested in joining the Board but don’t fit any of those descriptions, we would still love to hear from you though.

To be coopted, you will need to complete a nomination form (link below) setting out the skills and experience you would bring to the Board. For this position, you must be an accredited member of CIfA (PCIfA, ACIfA or MCIfA) but we welcome nominations from members at all career stages. You can read more from recent and current Board members about the skills needed, and the benefits of being involved, at benefits/experiences of being involved

Please return the completed nomination form to the email address given on the form. The deadline for nominations is Monday 2 March.

For more information and to discuss what’s involved, you can contact Alex Llewellyn, co-CEO (Membership and Governance) or Jim Williams, Chair of the Board of Directors.
