Applying to re-register your organisation

Organisations are registered for a maximum of three years. To ensure your registration continues without interruption, you must apply to re-register during the final year of your current registration period.

To apply to re-register, you need to 

  • Submit an application form
  • Agree an inspection date

Applying as a new organisation

To apply for the first time, you need to

  • Pay the initial application fee
  • Submit an application form
  • Agree an inspection date
  • Appoint a Responsible Post Holder

Application forms and guidance

All organisations should complete the main RO application form. 

If your organisation provides archaeological advice to national or local government bodies responsible for implementing planning and heritage consent processes, you must also complete the Stewardship form. We recommend completing this first to avoid duplication.

There is an initial application fee for organisations who are new to the scheme (currently £225 for small businesses, £300 for turnover up to £1,000,000, £375 for turnover over £1,000,000). If your organisation is accepted, you will pay an annual fee based on the financial turnover of your historic environment operations.

Subscription fees

Organisations whose role is exclusively either as a Higher Education Institute or curatorial authority will be charged at the lowest subscription rate.
