CIfA and UAUK are delighted to announce that degree programmes offered by Bournemouth University, the University of Leicester and the Queens University Belfast have been given professional accreditation for a further five years, with a distance learning programme also accredited at the University of Leicester.

Interim Honorary Chair of the CIfA Board, Rob Wiseman, said: "Education and ongoing training are essential to all professional archaeologists. We are pleased that the Archaeology Departments at Bournemouth University, Leicester University and Queens University Belfast have renewed their degree accreditation with CIfA for another five years. This demonstrates their commitment to excellence and the future of professional archaeology. The University of Leicester has also accredited its BA Archaeology (distance learning), giving aspiring archaeologists new pathways into archaeological careers."

Professor Ruth Young, Head of School of Heritage and Culture, University of Leicester, said: “We are particularly proud of formal recognition of our Archaeology BA by distance learning. This is the first time a distance learning and open access degree has received accreditation, increasing access to the profession. This progressive step is positive for students and Archaeology.”

Dr Dirk Brandherm, Subject Lead for Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology, Queen's University Belfast, said: “Following our recent re-accreditation, Archaeology & Palaeoecology at Queen's University Belfast proudly remain the first and only department on the island of Ireland to offer a UAUK/CIfA-accredited pathway, opening up exciting new opportunities for our students”.
