An opportunity has arisen in our busy Geomatics department. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate extensive experience of geomatics, both officed based and in the field, who are able to diligently capture, process and analyse spatial data. You must have experience of a wide range of project types as well as use of GNSS systems, total station, photogrammetric survey methods, and CAD and GIS software for data processing and analysis. You will have a good understanding, and significant experience of, professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment as well as the Health and Safety legislation relevant to it. You will need to be a confident problem solver with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and with a commitment to engaging the wider community in aspects of our work. A higher degree in archaeology, geomatics or related earth science discipline will be highly advantageous, as will membership of CIfA at an appropriate level.

Note that positions are initially expected to be working away from Oxford over the course of 18 months, although there are likely to be opportunities for rotation as required.
Position requirements:
- An in-depth knowledge of GIS, spatial analysis and at least one spatial software suite is essential, including ArcGIS.
- Experience of taking responsibility for large or complex pieces of work, such as organising survey teams and control of spatial data workflows for multiple or large sites as well as creating suitable spatial methodologies in conjunction with project managers.
- A thorough understanding of the needs and priorities of commercial clients and an awareness of budgets and cost analysis.
- A rigorous knowledge of geomatics including techniques for metric site, earthwork and building survey, different techniques for handling and visualising spatial data, uses and limitations of different data types, data suppliers and digital copyright.
- Experience using survey grade GNSS, total stations and photogrammetry for large scale archaeological survey, the skills to process data in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, QGIS, Reality Capture and AgiSoft software and knowledge of Leica hardware and software.
- The ability to take a lead role in performance monitoring and training of staff as well as providing remote technical assistance and troubleshooting.
- The ability to contribute to and author unpublished (grey literature) site reports and contribute to academic publications.
- A full clean driving licence is essential.
- A CAA approved UAV pilot licence is also desirable for this post, as is experience of SfM photogrammetry and LiDAR using UAVs.
