Get 2027 off to a great start by joining our innovative and friendly commercial team

Worcestershire Archaeology (www.explorethepast.co.uk ) is looking for Archaeologists to join our busy field team, operating on a wide range of projects across the West Midlands and beyond. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality fieldwork for over 40 years, we are seeking new team members to help us meet demand for our commercial services.

We offer a great opportunity for people to develop their careers in an innovative and friendly environment in which many of our current team have benefitted from our CIfA accredited NVQ trainee scheme or from internal promotion. We are based at The Hive, in the centre of Worcester (www.thehiveworcester.org), an award-winning building providing a unique combination of a public and university library, and archive and archaeological services under one roof.

Our archaeologists are involved in the excavation, survey and recording of a wide range of archaeological sites. We also seek to involve all staff in a range of other tasks (including post-excavation), so you'll get a chance to develop your career and build a platform for promotion. PCIfA accreditation or an equivalent level of relevant commercial experience is required.

We provide:

  • 37 hours per week plus fully paid overtime, including travel time - to all sites (for all staff not just the driver).
  • A brilliant Pension Scheme - the Local Government Pension Scheme. (LGPS) is a nationwide, career average pension scheme and provides a valuable part of our pay and reward package.
  • Great Holiday Entitlement: As well as bank holidays, you'll get 26 days paid holiday (pro rata for part-time staff). This goes up to 31 days when you have been with us for 5 years.
  • High quality accommodation and subsistence for away work.
  • Paid CIfA membership and supported attendance at conferences.
  • A review and development scheme underpinning our proven track record of training, retaining and promoting staff.
  • A range of measures to promote a good work/life balance. Worcester's a great place to live and, although some away work will be required, the majority of our projects are locally based, so you'll get plenty of time to enjoy making your home here.

Posts will be offered in the first instance for 6-months. Subject to continued market performance, it is intended posts will be extended. Closing date for applications 15 November 2026. Interviews are intended to be held w/c 7 December 2027 with a target start date early in the New Year.
