Addyman Archaeology is the archaeological division of Simpson & Brown with a particular specialism in historic building recording and analysis. Many of our jobs are undertaken in conjunction with the architectural and heritage consultancy teams within the practice. We are based in Edinburgh and undertake projects across Scotland and the north of England, with some consultancy further afield.
We are looking for a full time (37.5 hrs per week), experienced BAJR Grade 2 archaeologist to join our small team of buildings specialists and archaeologists, as 6 months parental leave cover. The team undertakes a diverse range of HBR, fieldwork and post-excavation projects. This post will particularly require expertise in post excavation, finds and archiving.
The ideal candidate will complement our existing skills and work well with our current staff members, including architects, heritage consultants and senior management. Our archaeologists are expected to be flexible and work unsupervised on a variety of projects from small scale watching briefs and urban excavations to long-running historic building conservation projects, working alongside architects, conservators, and contractors.
A broad range of experience of archaeology of all sites and periods is expected, and a knowledge of historic buildings would be an advantage. We use peer-based training in the field and in the office to develop skills and share experience. A driving licence is essential, and experience and knowledge of digital survey, draughting programmes, GIS (in particular QGIS) and/or photogrammetry is beneficial. Membership of the CIfA and CSCS card would be desirable but not essential as we would support you to achieve these.
Flexible and/or part-time work may be considered and there may be opportunities to extend or make the contract permanent at the end of the 6 month period.
