Buildings Archaeology Group evening lecture

The CIfA Buildings Archaeology Group are running a new series of evening specialist lectures that can focus on specific topics and themes to complement their series of lunchtime lectures.

This first session is running from 18:30 - 19:30 on Wednesday 17 September 2025

This session will feature a talk on Teesworks Industrial Zone: The Challenges and Opportunities of Historic Building Recording by BAG committee member Amir Bassir.

This presentation will provide an overview of the results of the historic building recording carried out of the Redcar Ironworks and Lackenby Steelworks ahead of their demolition for redevelopment. It will provide a description and discussion of the main areas of the site and the various processes at each stage and discusses the main challenges encountered during the course of the project and how these were overcome and how they influenced the recording methodology and report. I will also discuss what opportunities may be found to enhance understanding of these sites and to improve the survey and reporting process
