International Practice tea break talk series (November)

Join CIfA's International Practice SIG for our next tea break talk: Wildfires and archaeology: International perspectives and practice
The International Practice SIG invites you to join us for our tea break talk, taking place from 13:30 until 14:30 on Wednesday 11 November 2026.
The UK is one of many countries that has seen wildfires increase in recent years in association with climate change, posing both risks and opportunities for archaeology. Taking an international view, this talk will discuss best practice and resources in the management of wildfires and archaeology.
The session will introduce some of the causes and challenges of wildfires and will discuss how these can affect archaeology. It will consider what management practices are in place in the UK and will compare these to those in other countries where wildfires are a longer established regular risk, such as Australia, Canada and France. It will consider what we can learn from these international comparisons, with time for questions and discussion.’
Speakers: Adam Pietrzak, Senior Heritage Consultant at Arup and Caroline Pathy-Barker, Project Manager at East – West Consultancy Group.
We welcome everyone from the archaeological community to join us, regardless of your prior experience of working internationally or existing knowledge of the topic.
