Transforming the way we report: Revisiting OASIS V

The way we report our archaeological results has changed with launch of OASIS V. This new version of OASIS has streamlined how we report the results of our archaeological investigations in Scotland by streamlining the information you provide. Your OASIS V record will now feed into The Scottish Archaeological Research Framework, Discovery and Excavation in Scotland and your local Historic Environment Record. From early 2026 OASIS functionality now includes notifying the Treasure Trove Unit about post excavation assemblages submitted to the Scottish Finds Allocation Panel.
This CPD workshop will introduce how developments in online reporting are improving information sharing across the archaeological community in Scotland. A broad range of organisations and initiatives are benefiting from streamlining fieldwork reporting through a single online form (OASIS V). The event will introduce the importance of data standards in ensuring that information reported from fieldwork can be shared efficiently across partners. Workshop presenters include Historic Environment Scotland, the Archaeology Data Service, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (ScARF), Archaeology Scotland and the Treasure Trove Unit.
Besides adding project reports to the Archaeology Data Service Library, the new form
• provides a long-term platform for reporting fieldwork to Discovery and excavation in Scotland.
• ensures information reaches the relevant Historic Environment Record.
• helps update key questions identified through the ScARF regional and thematic research frameworks.
• will enable better profiling of the character of fieldwork undertaken across Scotland annually.
• Notify the Treasure Trove Unit of post excavation assemblages submitted to the Scottish Finds Allocation Panel
