Human Osteoarchaeology SIG Osteobites session

Description
The Human Osteoarchaeology SIG invites you to join us for the second in our 'Osteobites' series of short online talks from 18:30 until 19:30 on Wednesday 28 January 2026.
Join us for bite-sized talks, followed by discussions and questions, and the chance to connect with fellow OsteoSIG members.
Each session will have a focus on a specific topic, and we welcome everyone regardless of their level of pre-existing knowledge.
This session will feature a talk by Julia Beaumont and Hannah Koon titled “All is safely gathered in: Perspectives in sampling approaches”
Julia and Hannah will discuss isotope sampling and analysis with recommendations for good approaches, the importance of retaining different types of biological material, incremental dentine analyses including how it is done, what is needed and what it can tell you, and how by targeting different tissues you can build a life history.
They will share how different types of approaches than can be applied to the same sample, thus maximising information whilst minimising destructive sampling, and share examples of where they have applied this approach.
The presentation will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topic, which will only be available to those who attend live.
