Description
The Finds Group invites representatives of finds communities and interested groups to a ‘Town Hall’ to collaborate on a new training initiative. The hour-long online session will feature a presentation on our aims and objectives and a chance for questions and open discussion.

Training is one of the Finds Group’s strategic priorities. The most common concern we hear from our membership is a need for finds specialist training. Opportunities for early career archaeologists to train to become finds specialists can be few and far between, and at the other end of the spectrum, experienced specialists are retiring leaving no one to pick up their mantle.

The Finds Group is hoping to collaborate with finds communities to produce a series of recognisable, replicable, CIfA-accredited bolt-on training, run as part of existing events like conferences and meetings. The format is TBC, possibly a ~2 hour intro to the identification of specific finds, e.g. prehistoric worked stone, roman mortarium, medieval glass, etc. Ideally the training could include working with handling collections if available at the venue, opportunities for structured and free discussion, and networking.

This session is open to anyone involved in organising, managing, and/or running finds communities or groups that would benefit from finds training (eg SIGs). We welcome as many or as few reps from each group as you would like to send. Thank you in advance for your time and insight!
