Social Media in Development-led Archaeology: Potential, Problems and Practicalities
Christopher Wakefield, University of York

This session includes a presentation on using social networking sites to carry out public engagement in development-led archaeological contexts. The presentation uses a case study, excavations at Must Farm (a Bronze Age settlement site), to discuss strategies, social media plans, content creation, generating engagement with audiences and evaluating the impact of projects. It is designed to be practical and cover some of the key barriers to digital engagement in commercial environments (client confidentiality, lack of time and resources). There will also be space for discussion to cover any key issues or questions in more detail.
