Deadline

Following the retirement of our Senior Environmental Archaeologist after over 30 years, Worcestershire Archaeology (www.explorethepast.co.uk ) has an exciting opportunity for somebody to take on this key role in our innovative, friendly and highly successful commercial team.

The post will involve taking the lead on the delivery and strategic development of our environmental service, helping to maintain the excellent track record we have built up through almost 40 years of delivering high quality fieldwork across the West Midlands and beyond.

You will hold a post-graduate degree in environmental archaeology or an equivalent qualification, and have demonstrable commercial experience of leading programmes of sampling, analysis and reporting in either archaeobotany or osteology. You will have the ability to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary environmental work on larger-scale projects, including the commissioning, co-ordination and editing of reports by outside specialists.

We aim to be innovative, and have been developing areas of environmental work, new to the Service, such as stable isotope analysis on animal and plant remains, and aDNA work on animal and human bone. We would also welcome those who wish to contribute other research interests that will complement and enhance the work of the Service.

We are able to be flexible and will consider candidates looking for a full-time post (37 hours/week) or part-time work (minimum 22.5 hours/week). The post is a permanent one subject to successful completion of a 5-month probationary period. With a growing team and increasing demand for our services we would also be willing to consider applications from candidates with somewhat less experience who could undertake environmental duties at our supervisor grade (£31,537 to £33,699).

We are based at The Hive, in the centre of Worcester (www.thehiveworcester.org), an award-winning building providing a unique combination of a public and university library, and archive and archaeological services under one roof.
