An opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent post (following successful completion of a 3-month probationary period). The post is based at our head office in the thriving and affordable historic cathedral city of Lincoln, a stone's throw from the seaside and the spectacular scenery of the Lincolnshire Wolds, there are plenty of reasons to consider a job in Lincoln. We currently employ over 50 staff, but we retain the ethos of a smaller organisation, particularly in regard to the training and opportunities that we offer. The team are primarily based in Lincoln, with regional offices in Cambridgeshire and Lancashire, and undertake heritage and fieldwork projects across the UK, but with a particular focus in the East Midlands and East Anglia.

The postholder will prepare desk-based assessments, heritage impact assessments and Environmental Statements within the agreed timescales and budgets set by senior staff. They will undertake report and graphics preparation and visits to sites, Local Studies Libraries and Record Offices, both locally and remotely from the head office. Free, good quality accommodation, subsistence and an additional daily allowance are available for away work. On occasion, the postholder may also be expected to assist with fieldwork reporting and with general administrative duties and may be required to discuss site works with clients and curatorial archaeologists, and members of the general public. The postholder will be required to monitor the work of one or more heritage assistants and liaise with fieldwork, geophysics and historic buildings teams within the company.

Supervisory staff are provided with training covering aspects of health and safety and people management.

Essential:

  • An enthusiasm and strong ability in field archaeological practices, a willingness to work on your own or leading a team
  • A courteous and professional manner
  • A relevant archaeological qualification and sound understanding of British archaeology
  • Excellent computer literacy, including Office and GIS packages
  • Experience of preparation of desk-based assessments, heritage impact assessments and Environmental Statements
  • Experience of supervision and line management of staff
  • Attention to detail, analytical and proven report writing skills
  • Positive outlook

 

Desirable:

  • CIfA membership
  • Experience of undertaking historic building surveys and reports
  • Driving license preferred as work will require site visits and travel to HERs, usually using company vehicles
  • Willingness to make a positive contribution to staff development through mentoring
