Workplace Learning Bursaries

Heritage Lottery Fund logo

CIfA has run Workplace Learning Bursaries since 2006 supported by grant funding from the HLF under their Training Bursaries scheme. During that time we have worked closely with placement hosts to train 78 new historic environment professionals, investing over £1.6 million of HLF funding in workplace learning in archaeology and levering in nearly half a million in cash and in-kind contributions from placement hosts and project partners, including English Heritage.

Our current funding for Workplace Learning Bursaries finishes in 2014 and our recent bid to the HLF’s Skills for the Future Fund was unsuccessful. Unless we can find alternative sources of funding we will not be able to offer any further placements from 2014 onwards.

The Training Toolkit we produced as part of the project aims to support employers looking to offer structured learning opportunities in their own workplaces and can be accessed here www.archaeologists.net/trainingtoolkit. Our evaluation of the first six years of the project can also be downloaded below.

If you are interested in offering training positions within your own organisation or would like support to develop a programme of structured workplace learning, please contact kate.geary [at] archaeologists.net.
