Monday 4 & Tuesday 5 July 2016 - Managing our Military Heritage

This course will examine issues around the protection, conservation and management of modern military heritage. It will provide an understanding of the methods used to identify and investigate modern military sites, the assessment of their significance , their protection, and the management issues faced by these type of assets. The course also includes a field trip to former RAF Alconbury, a large Cold War air base, to see how it’s being transformed by an Enterprise Zone into a new community of high tech industry and housing. Monday 12 – Tuesday 13 September 2016 - Understanding & Creating Statements of Significance

This CPD course focuses on understanding the importance of significance when considering heritage assets, featuring speakers from Historic England and independent consultants. The course will offer guidance to people new to assessment, as well as to those with more experience, and will combine classroom-based learning with practical activities. By the end of this course delegates will be better able to understand the concepts of heritage values and heritage significance as set out in Conservation Principles (2007), assess how setting contributes to the significance of a heritage asset, appreciate the notion of 'substantial' and 'less than substantial' harm to significance with reference to specific cases, and evaluate a statement of the significance of a particular heritage asset or group of assets. https://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/history/heritage/understanding-creatin...

Monday 10 – Tuesday 11 October 2016 - Assessing the Impact of Development on the Setting of Heritage Assets

This exciting CPD course focuses on the importance of setting when managing heritage assets, and covers a broad range of issues including how we define setting and its key concepts, how to assess significance, and its contribution to the heritage industry.
