Archaeological Specialist L7 apprenticeship consultation

As part of the government’s new ‘trailblazer’ process, a group of organisations from across the sector are working together to design new apprenticeships for historic environment roles. Once approved, any organisation will be able to set up apprenticeships themselves based on the 'apprenticeship standards' being developed.

In June, the group is launching wider sector consultation on the Archaeological Specialist Level 7 apprenticeship. This is a post graduate degree level apprenticeship designed to train a range of archaeological specialists and involves completing a Masters qualification in the relevant specialism. It is expected to be of interest to organisations employing roles such as: Finds Supervisor, Project Officer, Finds Officer, Geophysics Supervisor, Materials Scientist, Artefact Specialist, Aerial Investigation and Mapping Investigator, Archaeological Investigator, Environmental Archaeologist, Heritage Scientist, Osteoarchaeologist, Dendrochronologist.

The consultation will launch at an event on the 6th June, in Birmingham - where the trailblazer group will provide further information on the apprenticeships in development and will include a Q&A. An online survey will also be available, with the deadline for consultation feedback being 25 June 2018.

This is an opportunity for you to air any concerns about the apprenticeships we are developing, and comment on how they could be adapted or improved to better suit the skills needs of your organisation. The event and survey will be hosted by CIfA, further details of how to sign up and access the survey will follow.
