We are looking for a senior archaeologist and heritage consultant, or someone ready to take on the opportunity to grow into a senior position, in our Hunter Office based in beautiful Lake Macquarie (5 mins from the closest beach), Australia. We are looking for someone with demonstrated archaeological direction experience and report writing skills and is happy to relocate to Australia. We do not require prior knowledge of working as an archaeologist in Australia, but we need someone with a good attitude who is willing to learn. The position would involve a couple months of training in Harrogate, UK and then relocation to Australia (on a sponsored work visa).  

We are looking for a team member who:

You have:

  • A graduate degree in archaeology with honours (or equivalent),
  • At least 5 years’ experience in archaeological consulting in the UK or elsewhere,
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team,
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking and preparing assessments in accordance with relevant heritage guidelines and codes of practice,
  • Demonstrated experience leading field teams including archaeological surveys and excavations, and
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including working with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project management, including scoping and delivering professional heritage advice
  • Project work, including report preparation and technical reviews
  • Fieldwork, including site inspections, archaeological monitoring, surveys and excavations
  • Liaising with clients, Aboriginal stakeholders and the wider community
  • Providing leadership within the team and assisting with mentoring by sharing your technical and consulting skills
  • Positively contributing to the culture of the organisation
