Summary

You’ll relish this opportunity to put your historic environment expertise to work in support of a more sustainable England. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Historic Environment Senior Adviser, you’ll use your historic environment (HE) expertise in a leading role. Developing ambitious partnership plans for places with nature at their heart, you will bring people and nature together. Your specialist HE advice and guidance will make a difference to a variety of initiatives - from landscape-scale habitat restoration/creation projects, to complex agri-environment schemes. Making a significant contribution to our HE strategy, you’ll promote the importance of integrated management of our natural and cultural environment. Along the way, you’ll forge collaborative relationships with a range of people - from colleagues to partners.

To join us, you will need a degree in a relevant subject, such as archaeology, historic environment management or historic parklands, or an equivalent level of relevant experience. You will certainly bring to the role a proven track record of working at a level equivalent to the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists corporate grade. Excellent planning and decision-making skills are more than matched by your flair for clear and engaging communication, and your commitment to creating resilient landscapes and seas. Experience of Construction Design and Management regulations, and of integrated environmental management, would be a real advantage.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here.
