Summary

Due to an expanding workload, GUARD Archaeology Limited are looking to employ a Project Officer. The post could be based at either our main office in Glasgow or our satellite office in Loanhead just outside Edinburgh but would be involved in projects throughout Scotland. This post is aimed at experienced supervisors looking for an opportunity to progress their career, lead large projects investigating archaeology across the country and develop a publications record. The post will require the individual to direct fieldwork and post-excavation projects through to completion.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • delivery of contracts from project design through fieldwork to completion of post-excavation, publication and archiving
  • presentation of archaeological results to peers and the wider public via lectures, media engagement and open days when required
  • undertaking of additional fieldwork and post-excavation duties as and when required
  • co-ordination of staff resources for small, medium and potentially longer duration projects
  • provision of guidance and support to project team members
  • collaboration with senior members of the team in strategic developments

We are interested in candidates with enthusiasm, strong ability and a willingness to work as part of a team. The successful candidates must have a degree in Archaeology, a CSCS card, a driving licence, Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists at Associate grade, and at least three years of experience of professional archaeological fieldwork. Candidates should enjoy working out of doors and be willing to apply themselves to developing their career in the discipline. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of Scottish archaeology and relevant Scottish Legislation and Planning Guidelines, and be computer literate, including Microsoft Office.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to work to Written Schemes of Investigation, pro-actively run fieldwork projects, make independent decisions in compliance with company rules, deliver projects successfully within budgets and lead teams from commencement to completion. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent leadership and inter-personal skills, with an aptitude for training and coaching their team, and engaging with the public.
