Description

CIfA's policy statement on equal opportunities in archaeology sets out that equal opportunities are an issue integral to every aspect of archaeological work, while the Heritage Sector Resilience Plan which provides a clear roadmap towards a stronger sector considers Diversity and Inclusion as one of five priority actions for improving the resilience of the wider heritage sector. With a focus on implementing racial equity and wellbeing in the workplace this workshop is for anyone working within archaeology who would like to develop their skills, knowledge, and update their working practices to ensure that we can attract, retain and support a more diverse profession. Racial equity in the workplace requires “seeing differently, thinking differently, and doing the work differently”.  Whether attending as an individual, CIfA member, or representative of an organisation there will be opportunities to discuss how you can implement interventions and integrate the learning from this session in a way that is relevant to your role/s.

* workplace is meant in the broadest sense of the term

About ESBAA

The European Society of Black and Allied Archaeologists (ESBAA) is a collective of anti-racist archaeologists from across Europe, West and Southern Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and North America. Formed in July 2020, our goal is to address this issue and to work towards social and economic equality, and to create equitable spaces for academic engagement, interdisciplinary and transnational collaboration, and mentorship for minoritised archaeologists. Our strength as an organization lies in the breadth of experiences of our members and their commitment to developing strong interdisciplinary archaeological networks. Members work across all parts of the discipline and include academics, students, museum professionals, historic environment officers and commercial archaeologists. We have close links with other sector support groups including Museum Detox and the Society of Black Archaeologists.
