Finds group AGM and practical workshop on exploring good working practices when dealing with finds onsite

Registration is closed for this event

Description

The theme of the day is to explore good practices in the first stages of working with finds onsite. The day will focus on early career finds archaeologists or those looking to progress within this specialist area (but is very much open to all who want to find out more/contribute to discussions).

There will be short talks in the morning from committee members on their specialisms. In the afternoon, we’ll run an in-person, tactile, practical session with ‘stations’ focussing on different specialist areas (pottery, animal bones, first aid for finds/finds identification) and will also entail working with the new Finds Recording Toolkit practically. Participants are encouraged to bring their own finds for identification/ discussion!

The AGM will take place as part of the programme – see the agenda below. The morning short talks and AGM will be live-streamed for online participants. The afternoon practical session will not be streamed.

Our annual meetings fulfil our group aims to promote best practice in finds work, to promote the value of finds work, and to act as conduit between the finds community and the rest of the archaeological profession. The meeting provides an important forum at which the committee can communicate the work of the SIG, and CIfA, to a broader audience.
