Join the London Area Group and the Thames Discovery Programme on an evening walk which examines much of the accessible foreshore of the City of London.

Description

This walk with the Thames Discovery Programme examines much of the accessible foreshore of the City of London. Along the route we will see remains of the once busy waterfront including the last operational wharf in the city. We will pass the outlet of the Wallbrook and pass city livery companies dating from the Middle Ages. We will probably see, in amongst the pebbles, fragments of pottery, bottles, smoking pipes and nails deposited there over the centuries. We will discuss the foundation of London by the Romans and its subsequent abandonment, it's re-occupation and growth into the international city we see today.

Cost

  • CIfA and London Area Group members: £12
  • Non-members: £17

Additional information
The walk will be 60 - 90 minutes in duration and we will be meeting at the Trigg Lane Stairs immediately downstream from the Millenium Footbridge - please click here for a map (Google maps ref: 51.51070346223899, -0.09807811952814091; What3Words ref: slam.candy.banks; NGR: TQ 32081 80802).

The foreshore is uneven and often muddy. We strongly recommend waterproof footwear (wellingtons or walking boots) and discourage the wearing of open toed footwear.
