An opportunity to find out more about the application of dendrochronology, otherwise known as tree-ring dating; the most precise dating technique available to archaeologists.

Description

The day will introduce you to the principles and techniques involved in using dendrochronology to date and investigate archaeological sites and historic buildings, using mainly Scottish examples. This will help participants recognise when dendrochronology could be applicable in their projects.

A presentation and practical session in the morning will be followed by a related site visit in the afternoon. This workshop will suit professional archaeologists, students of archaeology and interested individuals from other walks of life.

Transport
Parking – there is no parking at the Corn Exchange but there is parking at the entrance to Dalkeith country park (just off Musselburgh Road/A6094) which is a two minute walk from the Corn Exchange.
Public transport – Lothian Buses Service 49 (to Rosewell) leaves from Edinburgh town centre and will drop off within 4 minutes of the Corn Exchange.

Additional info

Part the workshop will be outside so please bring waterproofs and sturdy walking shoes.

Please note that lunch will not be provided on this workshop; there are many options available on the high street or feel free to bring your own!
