Welcome to the second Scottish Group Teabreak for students studying archaeology (and related degrees) in Scotland. During this tea break we'll be covering what we have been up to since our last catch up and then diving into career advice and skills development: what we can share with you to maximise your time at university and highlighting resources that may be of help when you begin to look at jobs within the historic environment sector.

Featured presenters

Dr Lindsey Büster is currently a Lecturer in Prehistory at Canterbury Christ Church University and a Research Associate at the University of York. Since completing her PhD at the University of Bradford (2009-2012) on Iron Age roundhouses in Scotland, Lindsey has been a post-doctoral researcher on various projects and a Teaching Fellow in European Iron Age Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh (2018-2019).

Héléna Gray is the Assistant Archaeology Officer at East Lothian Council Archaeology Service and a Project Officer at Archaeology Scotland. Héléna has been working professionally in Scottish heritage since 2005 following her graduation from the University of Edinburgh. She previously worked in the commercial archaeology sector as a field archaeologist and heritage consultant for ten years. Since 2007, Héléna has volunteered as a supervisor and field director for the Ardnamurchan Transitions Project based in north-west Scotland, teaching field skills to students and members of the local community.

Linda Marie Bjerketvedt is a Data Analyst at Historic Environment Scotland within Scotland's Rock Art Project (ScRAP). She graduated in 2020 with an MSc in Landscape Archaeology from the Freie Universität in Berlin. 

Cara Jones is CIfA's Senior Professional Development and Practice Coordinator in Scotland. Graduating from Cardiff University, Cara has been working in Scotland since 2005 as a field archaeologist, heritage consultant, local authority archaeologist and project manager in community archaeology. Her current role with CIfA includes supporting the development of initiatives which will help increase the diversity of the profession and to upskill of the archaeological workforce.

Anna Welch is the Professional Development and Practice Coordinator at CIfA. Anna graduated from the University of Southampton with a BA in Archaeology and an MA in Museums Studies. She was an archaeologist with Southampton Archaeology Unit for a number of years and is a volunteer leader with the Young Archaeologists’ Club. Her work centres on CIfA's approved training and accredited degree courses.
