CIfA Groups Forum

Welcome to the next groups forum. The groups forum is a chance for group committee members to meet tup and discuss everything group related. Below is the rough agenda for the day;  if you would like to add anything to the agenda, please let us know before 25 July or we can add it to AOB.

Agenda

10:30 - 10:40 Apologies.  Welcome & introductions

10:40 - 10:55 Strategic Plan Q&A
The new strategic plan is out now. A letter about what it means for your group has been circulated via email, and Alex Llewellyn will answer any questions you may have.

10:55 - 11:45 Back to business - group three-year plans six months on
Part of the new regulations for groups (introduced in November last year) means that groups need to produce and use a three-year plan to keep running. We will start the session with break out discussion about what groups have included and then come back together to look at some examples.

11:45 - 12:15 Promoting the public benefit of archaeology
Led by Penny Foreman of  Equality and Diversity SIG and Voluntary and Community SIG.

12:15 - 13:45 Ethical competence in accredited applications
Kate Geary/Lianne Birney will summarise the changes to the competence matrix from the Chartered Archaeologist feedback; currently we assess technical competence and ethical suitability through references, but the Board and Advisory Council have agreed a change to the Membership Regulations to allow assessment of ethical competence at all grades with a professional interview at MCIfA. We want to work with the SIGs to explore what ethical practice looks like in their specialism so we can ensure the new requirements are consistent across the membership, and to help advise us about any barriers there might be to applicants and how we can overcome these.

12:45 - 13:00 AOB
