Price: £15 (lunch is not included)

Led by: Dr Elizabeth Walker (National Museum Wales), Gareth Edwards (RCHAMW) and Ken Murphy (Dyfed Archaeological Trust).

Following on from a training event last Autumn which focused on the new National Standard and Guidance for Collecting and Depositing Archaeological Archives in Wales (2017)This hands-on workshop provides an opportunity for practitioners and others to become familiar with the National Standards for the Preparation and Deposition of Archaeological Archives in Wales.

Attendees will undertake a Practical exercise in preparing an archaeological archive for deposition in a museum, learn what happens to an archive once it has been deposited and receive refresher training in RCHAMW digital archives preparation.

Attendees will take part in discussions on the development of new guidance for the selection and retention of material for archives, and box deposition charging in Wales. Actively contributing to shaping the future of this area of work.

Attendees can also take part in a tour of the new Archaeology Collection Store at the National Museum.

Knowledge of this Guidance and adherence to its standards is essential to anyone working in Wales and compiling archaeological archives, on both a commercial and non-commercial basis. Following the event attendees will be confident in explaining the reasoning behind archive deposition decisions and charges made in Wales, to clients, colleagues and others.

This relates to the groups aims as its promotes and raises awareness of standards and guidance relevant to professional and non–professional archaeological practitioners.
