CIfA Digital Event Harassment Policy

Harassment-free CIfA digital events


CIfA is dedicated to providing a harassment-free digital event experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, nationality, education, experience, career or speciality.

In this aim, we expect all digital event attendees, presenters and panellists to adhere to the CIfA’s Code of ConductPolicy Statement on Equal Opportunities and Statement about dignity and respect for staff which indicates the standard of conduct to which members of the Institute are expected to adhere as well as non-members by their participation in CIfA2021 online.

Whilst we welcome discussion, debate, networking and engagement within our digital events, participants should conduct themselves with professionalism, showing all other participants respect, courtesy and consideration.

Any form of harassment, discrimination and bullying is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in any of our digital events, such as webinars, meetings, workshops, group or one-on-one discussions and in all other event content and communication.

 

Harassment, discrimination and bullying can include, but is not limited to:

  • Unwanted behaviour, inappropriate jokes or images
  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning verbal or written comments and images
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following 
  • Harassing photography or recording
  • Sustained disruption of sessions or other events
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour


Harassment can occur when there is no deliberate intention to offend. Harassment committed in a joking manner or disguised as a compliment still constitutes unacceptable behaviour. We would ask that all participants are mindful and careful in the words that they choose.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, CIfA will take immediate action to make sure that the event is a welcoming environment for everyone. Participants will be warned and asked to stop any harassing behaviour and are expected to comply immediately. Participants that are found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct or engaging in harassment, discrimination or bullying, may be removed from the online event platform (without refund when a paid event) and further action may be taken.

To confidentially report harassment, discrimination or bullying that you have experienced or witnessed, please contact your CIfA Zoom host immediately through the direct messaging function in the event. Alternatively, you can contact the CIfA events team at any time via email at conference@archaeologists.net during or following the event.
