Historic Environment Forum writes to English planning authorities about historic environment staffing
The Historic Environment Forum has written to all English Planning authorities to make the case for retaining historic environment expertise. The letter contains the latest figures on staff reductions, from a recent survey by ALGAO, IHBC and English Heritage. It contains an advocacy document (drafted for the Forum by IfA, IHBC, ALGAO and English Heritage and drawing on The Archaeology Forum’s advice note) setting out the benefits that expert historic environment staff bring, and the risks to the authority of dispensing with them or trying to manage with insufficient resources. IfA members may find these arguments useful in protecting local services: further advice can be found at http://www.archaeologists.net/advocacy/protectingservices.
