Chief Executive: Peter Hinton

Peter HintonPeter Hinton BA, MIfA, FRSA, FSA, is IfA's Chief Executive. Before starting with IfA in 1997 Peter worked for the Museum of London, originally as a volunteer excavator and later as a senior manager responsible for post-excavation processes (finds, environmental, illustration and publication work). Formerly an IPMS representative, he has been actively involved with IfA since 1987. His special enthusiasms include raising the profile of archaeology, especially with other professions and with politicians.


Head of Projects and Professional Development: Kenneth Aitchison

Kenneth Aitchison Kenneth Aitchison MA, FSA, FSA Scot, MIfA, started work with IfA in October 2001 and has been in his present post since June 2008. He is responsible for maintaining IfA's standards and guidance and for training policies and projects. Previously he worked as an archaeological consultant and contractor. His interests include the urban archaeological landscape, the political use of the past in the present and the European Iron Age.

Lynne BevanLynne Bevan PhD, MPhil, MIfA has worked part-time since 1991 as Jobs Information Service compiler. For her full-time work she is an independent finds specialist, specialising in analysis of post-Palaeolithic flint assemblages and small finds of all periods (metals, bone, jet, glass and stone). Workplace Learning Programme Coordinator: Andrea Bradley

Andrea BradleyAndrea Bradley, MA MIfA has manages the Workplace Learning Programme with placements funded by the HLF or at English Heritage. Andrea has worked in field archaeology and heritage consultancy for over 10 years. As a field archaeologist she ran training excavations for the British Museum and Birkbeck University of London. As a consultant at Atkins Ltd, Andrea managed the archaeological issues on major infrastructure and development projects, strategic heritage planning work overseas, and research into the archaeology of the 20th century for English Heritage. She is a tutor for the University of Reading School of Continuing Education.


Office Manager: Kirsten Collins

kirsten collinsKirsten Collins, BA MA MIfA joined the IfA in September 2008 and is responsible for overseeing the efficient and professional running of the IfA offices. She had previously worked as Client Support Team Manager at MoLAS, and as Regional Loss Prevention & Health & Safety Manager for Borders/ Books etc where she received commendations from a Crown Court Judge and the Commissioner of the City of London Police.


Training and Standards Manager: Kate Geary

Kate Geary Kate Geary BA, MIfA implements IfA strategies to develop and promote professional standards, training and development. She started work with IfA in January 2005. Her background is in curatorial archaeology in north Wales and at Devon County Council. She has been involved with the Young Archaeologists Club, Prospect and development of a research agenda for Welsh archaeology. Her main interests are the archaeology of upland landscapes, especially north-west Wales, and making archaeology accessible to a wide audience.


Policy and Recruitment Manager: Tim Howard

Tim Howard Tim Howard LLB, Dip Prof Arch, is policy and recruitment manager, responsible for promotion of IfA as a professional body and recruitment of both members and registered archaeological organisations. He started work in 2005 following a placement with IfA as a student. Prior to that he practised as a lawyer for over 20 years.


Finance & Administrative Assistant Gina Jacklin

Gina JacklinGina Jacklin PIfA is responsible for dealing with all financial queries relating to subscriptions, invoices and expenses. She had a career in the Department of Health and Social Security for 10 years. Since becoming a parent in 1984 she has worked part time in retail (with lots of experience in customer service). She joined IfA on a permanent basis in October 2004.


Head of Administration: Alex Llewellyn

Alex LlewellynAlex Llewellyn BSc, MIfA, head of administration, is responsible for IfA’s infrastructure, committee support and financial administration. She took a degree in heritage conservation and archaeological conservation and began work with IfA in 1998, moving to her present job in October 2001.

Alison TaylorAlison Taylor BA, FSA, MIfA, is responsible for IfA's publications and other outreach work. She was Cambridgeshire's county archaeologist for many years, and started work with IfA in February 2001. Her particular interests are burials (especially Romans, Saxons and deviants), Cambridge and Cambridgeshire, origins and growth of villages and public archaeology.


Public Relations Coordinator: Kathryn Whittington

Kathryn Whittington Kathryn Whittington BA, MSc, AIfA, is public relations coordinator with responsibility for providing professional and technical support to the Chief Executive, Policy and Recruitment Manager and other staff promoting the Institute’s work, policies and profile within and beyond the historic environment sector. She has a degree in archaeology from the University of Southampton and an MSc in forensic archaeological science from UCL. She has spent some time working in the civil service and the private business sector before joining the IfA as Administrative Assistant in 2005, taking up this post in October 2007.
