| Workplace Learning Bursaries | EPPIC Placements | IfA Conference Session 2007 | IfA Conference Session 2008 |
IfA Annual Conference for Archaeologists, Swansea, 18th - 20th March 2008
IfA Workplace Training, Thursday 20th March, 14.00-16.00
Kate Geary and Natasha Kingham, Institute of Field Archaeologists
Following on from last year’s highly successful session showcasing the work of trainees on the EPPIC and HLF Workplace Learning Bursaries schemes, this year the session focused on the progress of the two schemes.
The audience heard presentations from past and present placement holders in a variety of different placements across the UK, some of whom are working towards the Qualification in Archaeological Practice. In addition to this, two placement supervisors, from the HLF Workplace Learning Bursaries scheme, gave their honest opinion on what it is like to host a placement.
This year’s EPPIC placements were with the aerial survey team and archaeological investigation teams in York, the architectural investigation and archaeological investigation teams in Cambridge, the architectural investigation team in Swindon and the architectural graphics team in London and were once again run in partnership with IHBC.
New HLF Workplace Learning Bursaries have been set up with North Yorkshire County Council, AOC Archaeology, Headland Archaeology, the NMR, ADS, the Nautical Archaeology Society, Southampton City Council, the Lake District National Park, Birmingham Archaeology and Peterborough Cathedral with further placements due to be launched with the University of Cardiff, Perth Kinross Heritage Trust and GGAT to name but a few.
The session was a resounding success, and provided an excellent opportunity for trainees and supervisors involved in both schemes to meet and exchange experiences and ideas.
Once again, there's some very good news for anyone who missed this session. The whole afternoon was recorded as a podcast, and downloadable MP3 files will be available in addition to the PDF files very soon.
