Campaign for a Living Wage
The Campaign for a Living Wage is a Diggers' Forum initiative bringing together the IfA, Prospect, FAME and David Connolly of BAJR to campaign for improved pay and conditions in archaeology. Download the mission statement here and get involved.
The Diggers’ Forum is looking for you, the voiceless majority, to join us in our efforts to make contract archaeology a viable career for those who might currently feel excluded from the debates. The Forum intends to represent archaeologists primarily involved in excavation and post-excavation roles (as opposed to managers, consultants, county officers etc) across the UK. It is these staff that are poorly represented within the IfA and elsewhere, leading many to feel disenfranchised, helpless and often ultimately disillusioned with their profession.
Plans include seminars, proposals for training, events, and continual campaigning for better pay and conditions. For IfA members, membership of the Diggers’ Forum is free, for non-IfA members the cost will be £10 a year. We intend to campaign for change across the industry for the benefit of all archaeologists, but members will also have access to a web page, and receive newsletters, access to Forum activities and events, plus the support and advice of experienced professional archaeologists.
Can’t be a bad deal for £10!
