Information and Archaeology

Organiser: Duncan Brown

Group: Archives SIG

Two measures of the National Heritage Protection Programme (NHPP) relate particularly to the production and availability of archaeological information. Underpinning the Local Planning Process supports the principles of PPS5, while Capacity Loss in Local Authorities addresses the continuing provision of expertise. There is considerable pressure on archaeologists at a time when the information they collect should be informing planning decisions. With HERs, planning departments and museums all under threat there is a need for common approaches that mobilise all available expertise. This session brings together speakers from all those areas to consider how to present a coherent response to current planning requirements.
